Is there sugar in syrup? Then, YES!

Besides my birthday (obviously), and Christmas/New Years, Thanksgiving is one of my most FAVORITEST holidays! The time has finally come that we all get to go see our loved ones, eat great food, and NAP during the day. What’s not to love?!

So, in honor of one of my top 3 (4, counting New Years) most enjoyed and anticipated holidays, I decided to make a list (shocker) on the reason why I LOVE this time of the year. And as always, there will be commentary.

1. Food-  I am that girl who would say that her favorite class in middle school was lunchtime. I cannot get enough of food! I love trying new things, but I also love those comfort foods that always end up on the Thanksgiving table. Those foods being (yes, a list within a list. Don’t put anything past me)

  • Sweet potatoes- It’s best when my mom caramelizes them. UGH. It’s like Christmas when I see that’s the way she’s doing them.
  • Collard greens- My favorite food, seriously. I would live in a bowl of greens. Just sayin
  • Mashed potatoes- I turn into Paula Deen, “Alright y’all let’s add a stick of butter to these!”
  • Stuffing- Anytime I think of stuffing I get happy. I do the name justice, let’s just leave it at that.
  • BISCUITS- Bread bread, bready bread bread. I LOVE BREAD. Once again, I get all Paula Deen. I’m only a little ashamed.
  • Turkey- I love the dark meat (naughty?). I hoard the drum sticks, once again only a little ashamed.
  • Cranberry Freeze- This is my great grandmother’s (Nannie) family recipe. She makes it every year and it is DELICIOUS. It’s probably more of a dessert, but is so awesome we have it on the table the whole time ha. It’s like a frozen cranberry salsa like food. Perhaps I’ll give y’all the recipe?
  • Fried corn bread- Also my Nannie’s family recipe. It’s exactly how it sounds. Greasy and delicious. You couldn’t ask for more.
  • Pumpkin anything- This year my mother is making a pumpkin roll. Which I really hope everyone knows of this heavenly dish. It’s a mixture of two things I love: Pumkin and Cream cheese filling. UGH.

So, it looks like I am going to need my yoga pants when I eat, no big deal.

2. Avalon. Yep, this is the time of year (a mere 4 years ago) that Avalon and I became besties. It started as a random suggestion “oh you should come to my house for Thanksgiving”. Then the weeks went by and we really didn’t talk about it anymore. It wasn’t until like the week of where I was like, “so you seriously can come to my house for Thanksgiving”. And she was all like “are you sure?”. And I am like, “duh”. So then we packed up and went to my house for seriously a week. It was BEAUTIFUL. So many of the things I now love are because of that week. Do I feel a list coming on?

  • John Mayer- I really want to say I started REALLY listening to him during this week. Avalon probably made me. Continuum will forever be one of my favorite cds. Dreaming with a Broken Heart? KILLS ME. I love it.
  • Michael Buble- I already loved Michael with every fiber of my being, but this week escalated the love. So now everytime I hear Michael, I think of Avalon. Awwww
  • John Legend- Save Room for my Love. Seriously? How did I not know of his greatness before Avalon! Love him.
  • Grey’s Anatomy- Yep. I can honestly say I never watched an episode of my beloved Grey’s until THAT WEEK. Avalon watched it, and she was the guest so HAD to watch it (joking, Avalon. We wanted to). But it turned out for the best, because I can’t stop watching the show, even though it is starting to become horrible.
  • ELF- Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color? I already had seen this movie and LOVED this movie. But I think it is safe to say we watched it about 8 times that week…

Basically Avalon came to my house with music and tv show knowledge and opened up my world to the joy of it all..which is why she is my best friend. Thanks, boo! How I will miss you this year…

3. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade- Need I say more? It’s awesome. I abso-freakin-lutely love musicals and broadway shows. And there is always that one song I hear and am like, OMG KASEY WE NEED TO DOWNLOAD THIS NOOOOW. But alas we can’t because my parents don’t have internet. They still have AOL. I know. I can’t believe that’s still around either.

4. Black Friday- For years and years my momma, sister and I have woken up at the crack of dawn and shopped til we dropped. It’s a great past time that we share…along with thousands of other people. We have the same routine. We wake up, eat yogurt, stand in line at Best Buy, Target, Kohl’s, JCPenneys, Macys and sometimes Bath and Body Works, go get McDonald’s breakfast and coffee (necessary), get home by 11:30, realize we forgot to get my other cousin something (sorry), then nap for the whole day. I LOVE IT. Although with every year, we never learn that the trick to Best Buy is giving two of us the list while the other person stands in the super long line to check out. We ALWAYS split up then meet up in the middle and be like, awww man we messed up AGAIN. It hilarious. It’s also hilarious the game plane my momma comes up with. It’s like a football playbook. So many options, but there’s only way she wants to execute it.

5. Being HOME- Yes, I love Tampa and love my house here, but it is not my HOME. My home is where my momma, and dad and my DOG are. I love going there and just smelling that comforting smell (normally a mixture of my mom’s Happy perfume, my dad’s Sure deodorant, and my dog. It’s perfect).

   Me and the Bossman.

Well everyone I hope you enjoyed the things that I LOVE. Feel free to share what’s YOUR favorite! And whether you are at a loved one’s house, or at your own home, I hope you all have a SUPERB holiday!

PS. Another thing I love about Thanksgiving, is the fact that is socially acceptable to start listening to Christmas music! No one needs to know I cranked that up last week…

My unhealthy attachment to fictional couples.

Hello (3) readers,

Taryn and I often take to the blog to talk about television. Regardless of the fact that I don’t have cable (I’m cheap) I somehow manage to keep up to date with SO MUCH TELEVISION.

I am what you would call a multitasker. I never sit down and watch something, I need to be doing something else at the same time (some might call this ADD. Potato, PoTOTo). I watch TV (hulu) and clean, do crafts, cook… you name it.

Through this array of TV multitasking, I have become emotionally involved with several television shows and the characters portrayed on them. Before I delve into this emotional issue, I will preface that I am not weird. Well, I am a little weird, but not socially weird. I have friends, I have a roommate (fiance), I have a cat, I love my family, I have co workers, I have a hilarious relationship with my mailman. In short, I have normal real life relationships so a lack thereof is not the reason I pine over fictional relationships.

CLEAR?! Clear.

So, on this bright and crisp Saturday morning I decided I would do you the favor of sharing with you the EPIC fictional relationships that have changed my life (not really).

#1. Izze Stevens and Denny Douquette

I was sick my freshman year of college and my devil roommate (Satan for this suggestion) suggested I watch Grey’s to pass the time. It became an addiction. The show is A-W-F-U-L now and I still watch it. I watched with bated breath as Izze met Denny, and fell in love. Knowing that shows enjoy my tears, I knew he was going to die. Even with the knowledge of his eventual demise, I cried LIKE A BABY when he died. I still cry over it. Every night.

#2. Rory Gilmore and Logan Huntzberger. (Runner Up: Lorelai Gilmore and Luke Dane)

Oh the Gilmore Girls: such an integral part of my life. I loved the banter, the dumb jokes, and the faux town. MOSTLY I loved Logan Huntzberger. I loved his trust fund hair and his unreliable smile. They had the best relationship known to man. He was charming, smart, and so attractive. Then, at her graduation, he proposed. AND SHE SAID NO. I still am heartbroken over this. He even promised her an avocado tree. I only watched the last episode once, so I only had to live through the heartbreak once.

#3. Pam Beezley and Jim Halpert. (Runner Up: Holly and Michael Scott)

The first time I watched The Office I hated it. Then I decided to stop being so uptight and give in to laughter. But seriously, I’m a girl so the subtle romance between Pam and Jim stole my life from me. I hate sarcasm, but I love Pam and Jim (see what I did there?). I will admit that I love them less now that they are married with child, but I still love them. Perhaps I like couples best when they are angsty? Seriously though, Pam and Jim make love real. [I told you, I’m a sad human being].

#4. Rita and Dexter Morgan

At first she seemed dumb as a door nail, but then I began to love Ms. Rita.  I believe that she secretly knew that Dexter was getting his righteous kill on, but its an unproven hypothesis. SPOILER ALERT: she gets killed. It was sad. I feel for Dexter, I loved them together. Mostly because I want to date that show.

#5. Seth Cohen and Summer Roberts

Yes, I watched The OC, WHO DIDN’T?! But seriously, I think on this one, I was mostly in love with Seth. He was so adorable, nerdy, smart, creative…ugh I could go on forever. He wasn’t stupid (Ryan), he wasn’t reckless (Ryan), he didn’t have a swipsy swapsy girlfriend (Ryan). I loved how socially awkward he was, and I loved Captain Oats. So essentially… I guess I just loved Seth Cohen. Whoops.

#6. Every relationship on Nip/Tuck

I started watching Nip/Tuck this summer. I finished Nip/Tuck this summer. Seriously, that show is ADDICTING. I ended the show hating everyone on it, but that show has epic relationships on it. Crazy people, incest, transvestites, cheating, bisexuals, the list goes on. These relationships were epic because it made me NEVER want to go to California, NEVER get plastic surgery and NEVER want my best friend anywhere near my spouse (you hear me TARYN? JK). It made me cynical. I’m over it.

Are you as obsessed as I am?

McPlease-leave-the-show-but-you’re-still-hot

For about 4 years now (thanks to Avalon) I have been watching Grey’s Anatomy. I’ve watched every episode AT LEAST three times. I know my favorite episodes. I know my favorite story lines. I know my favorite people.

Which brings me to my post.

Grey’s Couples. They’re as flaky as  baked phyllo dough (hollaaaa for baklava). It started out simple. Meredith and Derek. PERFECT. Done. Should’ve ended there.

But of course they didn’t.

Cristina and Burke happened. Which is ACTUALLY the main reason for this post. I love this couple. SO much. Erica made a folder for me WITH THEIR PICTURES ON IT. I thought they were perfect.

They both were stubborn, and dedicated, and he played the trumpet. THE TRUMPET. How weirdly attractive is that?! Regardless, I took it personally when they didn’t get married. And Cristina was just standing there, crying, asking Meredith to get her out of the dress. I cried. I bawled. And as I have stated before, I am NOT a crier. I do not have feelings. But I was hurt. How could he just walk out? She shaved HER EYEBROWS OFF for that damn wedding. Ugh

So whatever, I know he left for cast reasons (not okay what he did, but I secretly forgive him because I LOVED HIM AS BURKE) but now we (because I work for ABC) introduce Owen. This mysterious, icicle, army man. And at first we are like, aw he is random and hot; Cristina should totally make out with him! And then she did. And then he became a regular on the show. And we all cringed inside (you know it)

Now he isn’t so random. He isn’t so mysterious. He isn’t anything but some red headed war veteran, who has PTSD (and is actually the fiance in Maid of Honor, starring McDreamy whaaaa). Every time something happens (idk, like when he almost STRANGLES her) I think, this is it. This is when Cristina is free and they will bring Burke back. And they will live happily ever after and George will be alive again and Izzie will be with Karev and Meredith and Derek will ACTUALLY get married and not be so dumb about their “post it marriage” (stupid).

But alas. Grey’s doesn’t believe in my dream world.

Instead these weird/crazy instances keep bringing Cristina and Owen CLOSER together.

In Grey’s talk the only words that come to mind are. Seriously? Seriously. But seriously? No. Seriously? Seriously? No really, SERIOUSLY?

I don’t know how into Grey’s you all (five of you) are, but these recent episodes are quite dramatic. No? Well there is one common denominator people. OWEN. Not to keep bashing Owen (yes I am) but when Burke worked at Seattle Grace, there wasn’t anything crazy going on. And when Burke got shot, nobody went crazy and had to go to therapy. The OPPOSITE actually happened and Cristina turned into a sexy stripper girlfriend. Which is a lot better than weepy, upset Cristina who can’t operate without being freaked out of her mind when a little commotion is going on.

And ya know, the thing is is that I could possibly like Owen. I like having a little eye candy on a Thursday night. But when it comes to Cristina, there is only one person who fits that puzzle piece. And we know I am NOT talking about Owen. Or George. Or Alex. Or Avery (bi racial). Or Derek. Or Sloan. Or the Chief.

So there we have it. In the case of Burke vs. Owen, the ruling favors Burke. All day, everyday baby.

Btw, sexy biracial? Hi. I love you.
